On Saturday 21st October a Grand Fundraising Concert was held at St. Mildred’s Church, Tenterden. Organised by Maurice Dalton, the concert featured songs from the West End and other popular pieces performed by the Rhythm of Life Choir, led by Carla Smith and accompanied by Damien Smith. Michael Freer also played songs and compositions on the church organ, with Ian Klemen compering the evening. For three hours on Sunday 4th June the owners of the wonderful Heronden Hall opened their breathtaking gardens to the public in aid of the Day Centre. Over 600 people visited and explored the grounds of the house, including formal gardens, vast lawns and the labyrinth which was planted out two years ago. Visitors browsed the various stalls and stopped off for cream teas and refreshments. The weather was glorious which made it all even better. A quiz at The Woolpack in Tenterden on 8th May raised a whopping £833 for the Day Centre. 11 teams battled it out through general knowledge, music, timed word puzzles and a picture round to finally crown team WUD the winners. A sincere thank you to everyone who came along and supported us with the quiz and raffle. On Thursday 6th April the Tenterden Lions Club came to the Centre and presented us with a cheque for £3,000. These funds were the result of the Christmas collection and other events during 2016 and were very gratefully received.  They will go will go towards supporting the running of the Centre. On Sunday 20th November, the organisers of this year’s Biddenden Tractorfest gathered 16 local organisations together to make them each a donation of £1,000 from funds raised at the event which was held in August. On Sunday 20th November we held our annual Volunteers and Supporters Lunch at the London Beach Hotel. Almost 80 people attended, including the majority of our volunteers. The event is held every year to say a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who gives up their precious time to assist in our day centres, on our transport and in our charity shop at East Cross. We also said thanks to people who have supported the charity in other ways during the year including the Mayor, the Rotary Club of Tenterden and the Tenterden Lions. The Alzheimer’s society have today launched an online petition to ensure that home care workers caring for people living with dementia have the correct training to deal with the situations that they face. They state that “Right now 400,000 people living with dementia in England are relying on homecare workers to help them wash, get dressed, eat and take their medication.
